Interior Painting

There is nothing like a fresh coat of paint. For the Client it begins with being inspired with just the right color combination. For us at Downeast Painter, it begins with a comprehensive site-prep, including floor covering and protection, prepping the surface to be painted, and patching any holes and caulking any seams that we find. When painting a room, it is divided into (3) zones: ceiling, wall and trim. The ceiling is generally first as painting overhead has a high splatter radius. This is followed with a few coats of paint on the trim around the window, door and baseboard and a few coats on the wall. We finish with touchup and cleanup and a walkthrough of the project.

Trim Update for Windows, Doors and Baseboard

Many homes are over 100 years in Southern Maine and it's surprising how often some still have their original trim. Sometimes it's in vintage shape but most times it's covered in multiple layers of paint of unknown origin and it's easier - and safer - to dispose of it properly and start fresh. Coupled with a fresh paint job, replacing trim in your room is guaranteed to make it feel fresh and new.

Wall and Ceiling Drywall Repair

Do you have an old home with the plaster detaching itself from the wall? Did your roof leak and leave behind a water-stained ceiling? Did you accidentally poke a hole in the wall? If you need a repair there's usually lots of options. Let us know what you're up against and we can decide the best strategy.

Interior and Exterior Door Replacement

Is it time to update that old door to a secure steel, fire-rated door? For your interior, do you prefer the look and feel of a solid pine door over a hollow composite door? Updating a door is another great touch for a home. Hanging it right, especially in an older homes, is our specialty.

Short Term Rental (STR) Conversions

Have you ever considered making extra income by converting a bedroom into a Short Term Rental (SRT)? There's a lot to consider, does it need an en suite bath, does it have a private entrance, do you the homeowner feel safe and secure? If you've ever wondered about this, give us at Downeast Painter a call and we can discuss the different options.

Demos and Cleanouts

Almost every good project starts with a "demo", a broad term to describe the act of tearing down walls and ceilings to expose the studs and joists. It's the dirty work but once completed it is so nice to have a clean canvas upon which to design the room of your dreams. As a rule of thumb at Downeast Painter, if we don't know the origin of the materials used, we consider it hazardous. This means wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and taking precautions to minimize the spread of dust and debris outside the worksite.
